Bernie Sanders proposes up to 20 years in prison for violating a superintelligence ban

CBS News reports that Sen. Bernie Sanders has proposed penalties of up to 20 years in prison for violating a ban on developing artificial superintelligence. Asked whether those penalties were comparable to penalties for illegally developing nuclear weapons, he said, “The analogy is appropriate, exactly.” Sanders told the network he believes AI’s potential danger is “probably greater than nuclear weapons.” He also urged lawmakers to listen to technology developers who warn they are losing control of what they built.
