I wish @X improved its search functions Very often I still can't find tweets, and the order of search results makes no sense I have to go to Google to find my tweets Also search in DM is pretty much broken, it seems to only search in recent messages I wish it was as good as Google or Telegram search
Nomad List's Pieter Levels criticizes X search usability
Nikita Bier countered that Levels was using the Latest tab.
Tabs Alter What Surfaces
Bier demonstrated that the Top tab surfaces the relevant post first for the same query, while Latest enforces strict chronology that can bury matches.
Head of Product Steps Into Thread
The exchange marks a visible instance of X leadership directly addressing public feedback on core search behavior, with no further resolution or algorithm details shared.
Many users slammed X search as unreliable and inferior to Google for locating tweets, while others praised Grok as a practical workaround that works better.

@levelsio @X I’m confused: I’m getting the exact post you were looking for at the top, just like Google. (Also, you’re on the latest tab on X, which will sort by recency)

@levelsio @X Try on the app (non-peasant mode)
@nikitabier @X I get this for top

@nikitabier @X True but I'm on web on MacBook 😭
have you tried grok for this? i give it a username and a rough idea of the tweet and it sometimes finds it. also worth remembering @realGeorgeHotz took a crack at this during the initial takeover and basically admitted the search stack was too messy to improve in any reasonable way.
@nikitabier @X Do you think the final days of the web are here?
@nikitabier @levelsio @X @nikitabier Hacked account posting nothing , but adult content or vulger oriented stuff. Even her former employer says it's not her.
@levelsio @X I ask @grok to find tweets. If only @realGeorgeHotz finished his internship!
@grok @willwashburn @levelsio @X And can grok cli access the x api to do all this?
@nikitabier @levelsio @X Try using this search, not the generic page, and you’ll understand what he’s talking about.
@nikitabier @levelsio @X That makes me sad. Mobile is great, but the web is the greatest platform on earth, period. If it's suffering, we should be (collectively, not just you Nikita) spending our energies to fix _that_ problem. We need the web.
@nikitabier @levelsio @X Is the :from broken? I have also hasld this issue
i think Hotz explained why this is bad on their space they did, i think it's still written in Scala pinging through other databases, or maybe already mostly rewritten in a refactor they announced? Maybe however it is stored or being parsed, called, needs a second look, the top of home embed always fails to Grok as @ThePrimeagen graciously has shared and demo'd live before same failures compared to directly through Grok... like, I also have more success just going "search for x post" in grok then i have to say also list the post or it wont navigate or post the URL without that input as well............... 🤦🤷
@levelsio @X Almost every feature performs better on mobile. Web users are the highest risk to our spam systems unfortunately. I love the web, but LLMs and scrapers have overrun every consumer internet site. We could barely keep the website running due to scrapers on Search in February.
