There are a couple of important reality checks baked into that post.
1) SpaceX IPO: not actually happening yet
As of now, there is no confirmed SpaceX IPO. The company has been:
* repeatedly described as considering a public listing for its Starlink business first * but Elon Musk and SpaceX leadership have consistently said a full IPO is not imminent and depends on long-term stability of Starship and Starlink cash flow
So the “about to have an awesome outcome” framing is speculative, not a current financial event.
2) Employee wealth outcomes are real—but uneven

Most will actually be doing very well. Even 60k in equity in 2020 is worth 4-5x now. 60k in equity is nothing btw.
Most people at SpaceX got that per year. So if you started there in 2020 you have a fair amount.

All this is possible because SpaceX does this differently, by giving almost every employee actual equity, not just the top executives. So when the company succeeds, the welders, machinists, and techs actually share in that success.
It’s rare, because most companies prefer to keep the big upside for founders and venture capitalists. SpaceX spreads it wide, which is why this story is hitting so hard. 💫
