Anthropic is shipping a native desktop client for Claude in beta, giving Ubuntu and Debian users direct access to the same Chat, Cowork, and Code tabs that macOS and Windows users already enjoy, all without switching to the browser or CLI.

Paid subscribers can now run parallel sessions, review diffs, and use the integrated terminal and preview pane exactly as on other platforms, while free users stay limited to basic chat.
Computer Use and voice input are absent for now, and the global hotkey behaves differently under Wayland, so the exact timeline for those pieces and wider distro coverage stays unknown.
Many users praised the Claude Desktop Beta launch for Ubuntu and Debian Linux as overdue support that finally delivers a complete desktop workflow, while some criticized its expense and closed nature or rejected it outright.
