@TheZvi There are two flavors (pro and against) and I think both are pretty bad. I'm more afraid of the pro flavor because so many of my friends work there, and they share my culture more than like any other for-profit company, let alone any other AI lab, so the trap feels more appealing

There are a lot of very clever and hardworking people involved. They have built amazing AI tech.
There are also clearly a lot of people there who have been government officials who were probably not listened to or dismissed.
Because literally no regulated entity or entity-begging-to-be-regulated on the planet engages in public discourse at that rhetorical level and then gets to act as if they are surprised when suddenly the government does something.
