DeepSeek reportedly partners with Huawei on Ascend chip programming tools

DeepSeek reportedly said Wednesday that it has partnered with Huawei Technologies to develop programming tools for Huawei’s Ascend chips, in a move CNA cast as another sign Chinese tech companies are tightening links around alternatives to Nvidia’s software and hardware ecosystem. In an official WeChat post, DeepSeek reportedly said it was open-sourcing infrastructure for the Ascend platform, including the TileLang programming language plus related compute and communication libraries. The announcement follows earlier reporting from CNN that Huawei said in February 2025 it would run DeepSeek on Ascend hardware, a development some analysts viewed as evidence that strong AI models could operate without Nvidia’s top-end chips.
