@MTSlive This is wise. Anthropic made it clear they are retaining everything. Presumably for fine tuning and such, but it would be crazy to put any IP through it.
i can understand not wanting to have your data slurped to train all the safety classifiers, if this is the state of the classifiers pushed out, it leaves a bad taste

@mattparlmer They have to not allow it just like every other corporation. Anthropic, or any company not Microsoft, simply can’t have access to internal data, period.
@MTSlive This is the real story, not the fallback drama. Zero-retention was the whole pitch to regulated enterprises. If classifiers can't run without retention, Anthropic just split its lineup into "safe" and "private — pick one." Banks won't pick safe.

the detail that matters: every other Claude model runs under zero data retention. Fable 5 can't. there's no opt-out - use it and your prompts are kept 30 days, flagged ones up to two years. the classifiers that make it the most capable model are the same classifiers that have to watch you. capability and retention aren't a tradeoff here. they're the same feature. Microsoft sells Fable 5 to its customers and won't let its own staff use it on sensitive work.
