Semafor reports that Taiwan is set to tighten controls on sales of cutting-edge AI chips to China to win favor with the US. It says the move could curtail black-market sales to Chinese companies seeking to bypass US restrictions. Bloomberg reports Taiwan’s economy minister said Taipei plans to control AI servers and cutting-edge semiconductors; he said shipping restricted AI hardware to China would become a criminal offense once the measures take effect.
