Jakob Foerster, Associate Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Oxford and Research Scientist at Meta AI, stated there is an entire generation of AI researchers now seeking value and meaning in life rather than money maxxxing. Stella Biderman, Executive Director of EleutherAI, replied directly that asking people to accept a 5x-10x pay cut does not support truthful claims about compute availability at the lab in question.
