@emollick My wife is preparing to write a book, by reciting a bunch of anecdotes of her life. With ChatGPT acting as an archivist. I set her up on Codex. She just needed to dictate and have that data written to her drive. ChatGPT didn't work for that. Now Chat Work is the better choice.
@emollick It’s for non-coding business types. Seeing code, the terminal interface, etc of with Codex is surprisingly intimidating for most non-coding people. Smart product choice by OpenAI
@emollick kinda feels like Work exists so managers feel safe handing ChatGPT to non-technical team members but everyone technical will just use Codex anyway lol
@emollick Controversial and uneducated take - it’s just to get more tokens burned (and therefore more revenue) ahead of IPO
@emollick Good question. If its just codex with training wheels, calling it Work feels like a UX bandaid, not a product.
@simonw Like it because of the remote feature. Kick workflow from your phone
And then what is the point of Work? Just a dumbed-down version of Codex that secretly does coding but hides it? (I can understand, maybe, if the release was a 1st step towards something but there is no vision for what Work will be and no new features at all at launch. Confusing) https://twitter.com/simonw/status/2075663976453808222
Anyone know if ChatGPT Codex (in the new ChatGPT desktop app) is a strict superset of ChatGPT Work? Liked if you're a software engineer who isn't intimidated by Git features is there any reason you'd ever want to switch to ChatGPT Work Mode?
Looks like the line from OpenAI insiders is the at it's purely a UI thing, not a difference in capabilities https://twitter.com/ajambrosino/status/2075694945286180942
@simonw Yes Codex is the one with the “scary code ui
