Figma releases Weave Generator, Figma Motion, and an integrated AI agent to build plugins and shaders directly in its canvas
Story Overview
Figma is pulling code exploration, animation controls, and prompt-driven plugin creation into its shared canvas so designers, PMs, and engineers can test ideas without leaving the main file or switching apps.
Code layers and motion arrive together
Designers can now clone repos, pull flows into editable layers, and handle transitions plus 3D transforms directly in Figma instead of exporting to separate tools.
Weave canvas integration waits its turn
The AI generator and agent features for shaders and plugins are rolling out now, but full Weave workflow embedding inside the core canvas is still scheduled for later this year.
Users are excited about Figma's new Motion feature, Code Layers, and Weave AI tools because they enable in-app animations and integrate code exploration plus AI workflows directly into the design canvas.

For years, the design industry has talked about "design vs code"
And tools (including Figma!) have forced a choice.
But this is a false debate. Code isn't the opposite of design. Code is a material for design.
So we're bringing code to the Figma canvas with Code Layers.
CUSTOM SHADERS BUILT WITH THE FIGMA AGENT
Everything you saw today: code, motion, shaders, your own tools... It all lives together in the canvas. For the first time, in one place.
Today we announced ways to: → explore with code → generate with Weave → build plugins and shaders with the Figma agent → animate with Figma Motion
For Config 2026, we're focused on two things:
1. New materials to express anything you can imagine 2. New tools to shape them and to push further than ever before
Excited to launch Weave tools in the Figma canvas!
Figma Weave allows you to build workflows where you can connect models, transform assets and refine outputs.
Now you can bring these workflows to the Figma canvas! And you can share them with your team for others to use or remix.

@Tabib_Hasan_ @figma @grok you have no clue if youre comparing figma to canva lmao

@figma @grok Is there anything I can't already do in Canva?

@figma i'm jittering to try it

@zoink Figma animate? Almost everything posted about Config is animated thus far. 🙏 It's hopefully coming.

@zoink

@figma @grok what can you do in figma that you can’t just build yourself in Claude code or codex like platforms? I’m trying to understand where figma fits in the actual cycle
