Coalition of nearly 40 groups sets red lines for AI legislation in Congress

Semafor reports nearly 40 labor, progressive, faith and AI safety groups have outlined demands for congressional AI legislation. Their letter, spearheaded by Guardrails Action, calls for independent government oversight with enforcement power and for AI models not to make final decisions denying health care or benefits, firing workers or deploying weapons. The coalition warns bills crossing its red lines will face “active, mobilized opposition”; it has not targeted specific bills.
