HomeView may add a HomeKit Secure Video camera mode

His posted settings list four operating modes. Off would disable motion detection, streaming and recording. Detect Activity would sense motion without streaming or recording; Stream would allow live viewing without recording; and Stream & Allow Recording would do both. The text also lists When Home, When Away and When Asleep options.

The proposed privacy measures are specific. According to pdfu’s text, only home members could view streams and recordings. A green light on the display and a sound would accompany someone viewing the stream or the camera starting to record. Home members would receive a notification when the settings changed, and turning on streaming and recording while people are home would require using HomeView itself. These are descriptions of how the mode would behave, not tested protections.

In his Nov. 1 report, The Verge’s Terrence O’Brien traced the finding to pdfu and wrote that Apple had said nothing to suggest the feature was coming. The settings do not establish that Apple will release it.
