OpenAI Ends Cursor Access After SpaceX Acquisition
Cursor's founder confirms OpenAI will end direct model access after the acquisition.
OpenAI announced it will terminate Cursor's direct access to its models following the coding tool's acquisition by SpaceX. The change takes effect in three months. Cursor co-founder and CEO Michael Truell stated that OpenAI models currently handle about 5 percent of user traffic and said the company is speaking with OpenAI to resolve the issue. Cursor was an early user of OpenAI models. Observers including Miles Brundage and Matthew Berman linked the decision to concerns over SpaceX and Elon Musk. Amjad Masad of Replit offered free OpenAI model access on its platform as an alternative.
