There's an interesting procedural generation -> generative AI -> procedural generation ouroboros closing in on itself right now. GenAI is basically data driven procedural generation, and now the LLMs are leveraging perlin noise height maps and fractal tree models.

Up until now, the models had been using primitives for building objects.
I couldn’t believe the Boeing 747 shared by @victormustar was also built from primitives, so I investigated.
With Three.js DevTools I could see the geometry was fully custom. The source was minified, so I downloaded it and asked Claude to analyze it.

Turns out these models have now learned to generate their own custom geometry constructors when the library doesn’t provide them.
Fable has done AGI-level job on on the Boeing 747 benchmark... it's almost scary 👀
@mrdoob @victormustar a tangent, but you know after all these years I still prefer modeling with wings3d because it's the only tool I've used that keeps me in touch with the verts and edges and provides me with natural feeling ways to manipulate them.
I always finish with something really unique.

@mrdoob @victormustar Well I wouldn't say the new models "learnt" to generate mesh vertices via code. It was always possible if you just ask them to. The old models just were lazy to do that without any guidance.

@mrdoob @victormustar That's a quiet but kind of huge shift — three.js stops being the API surface and starts being the convention scaffold the model builds on top of. Curious if regenerations produce stable geometry, or does each prompt yield a slightly different mesh?
