Shopify CEO Considers Ban on Claude Code
Post highlights conflicts from Claude reading only its proprietary instruction file.
Tobi Lütke, who leads Shopify, shared plans to potentially ban Claude code usage internally. He pointed to problems where the AI tool only reads its own CLAUDE.md file. This clashes with other files such as AGENTS.md and.agents/skills that teams rely on. Different tools then create conflicting instructions, which Lütke called unnecessary. Julien Chaumond from Hugging Face replied to the post, expressing hope that its reach will encourage the developers behind Claude to adjust their approach.
I’m thinking about banning Cloude code at Shopify until they change their mind and read AGENTS.md and .agents/skills etc. Insisting on only reading CLAUDE.md sometimes leads to split brain problems when different team members use different tools. Just unnecessary.
