Anthropic's IPO filing reportedly leaves Ben Mann outside its defined founder groups

The San Francisco Standard reports that a footnote in Anthropic's IPO filing says Ben Mann is “often referred to as a cofounder” but is “not a member of the Founder LLC nor a Continuing Founder.” He would not be part of the seven-founder group that would jointly control more than 50.1% of shareholder voting power. The Standard says Mann's percentage of shares is unknown.

The filing followed an Oct. 14 announcement in which Anthropic called Mann a cofounder while opening its first Singapore office, according to the Standard. Anthropic said Mann had signed an agreement with the Singapore Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

An Anthropic spokesperson said Mann's role has not changed and “it’s still fair to refer to him as a cofounder,” the Standard reports.
