TLDR

An ICP advocate’s post says South Korea’s president ordered an investigation after cyberattacks and data leaks affecting financial institutions. It says Shinhan reported the exposure of information belonging to around 25,000 customers, while regulators cannot rule out AI use in the attacks. The author argues for tighter controls over what AI systems can access and do, pointing to Internet Computer as one approach.

@ICPLEGEND1966🚨🇰🇷🤖🏦♾️ $ICP — IS THE REALITY FINALLY HITTING HOME? South Korea’s PRESIDENT has ordered a major investigation after a wave of cyberattacks and data leaks hit the country’s financial sector. This isn’t one small bank. Reports identify attacks or breaches involving institutions including: 🏦 Shinhan Bank 🏦 KB Kookmin Bank 🏦 Hana Bank 🏦 BNK Busan Bank and attacks or investigations involving additional financial institutions. Shinhan alone reported personal information belonging to around 25,000 customers had been exposed. Names. Phone numbers. Income information. Loan-related information. Other incidents exposed additional personal information. But THIS is the part that should make everybody pay attention. South Korea’s Financial Services Commission says authorities CANNOT RULE OUT AI BEING USED IN THE ATTACKS. And its chairman is now talking about: “AI ATTACKS DEFENDED BY AI.” Think about how quickly this conversation is changing. We have been talking about: 🤖 Autonomous AI agents 🔐 Hard authorization boundaries 🧠 AI systems humans increasingly struggle to interpret 🛡️ NVIDIA building security OUTSIDE the AI agent ⚠️ AI safety researchers warning about control 💰 AI-assisted impersonation targeting banking executives And now financial regulators are openly discussing defending against potential AI-assisted cyberattacks WITH AI. THIS ISN’T SCIENCE FICTION ANYMORE. And here’s MY conviction. The answer cannot simply be: BUILD MORE POWERFUL AI TO FIGHT MORE POWERFUL AI. Because underneath BOTH sides still sits the infrastructure. WHO HAS ACCESS? WHO HAS AUTHORITY? WHAT CAN THE AGENT EXECUTE? WHAT DATA CAN IT READ? WHAT SYSTEMS CAN IT CHANGE? WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS COMPROMISED? WHO CAN REVOKE ITS AUTHORITY? And most importantly: HOW MUCH DAMAGE CAN ONE COMPROMISED IDENTITY OR AGENT ACTUALLY CAUSE? That is why I keep coming back to $ICP. Not because ICP makes cyberattacks disappear. IT DOESN’T. But Internet Computer has been building around concepts that I believe become increasingly important in an AI-driven world: 🔐 Cryptographic identity ⚙️ Programmable authorization 🚫 Hard permission boundaries ♾️ Canister isolation 📋 Verifiable execution 🗳️ Governance ☁️ Sovereign infrastructure 🤖 AI-native applications The world is spending BILLIONS making AI more intelligent. Now governments, banks and technology companies are discovering the other half of the equation: HOW DO YOU CONTROL WHAT THAT INTELLIGENCE IS ALLOWED TO TOUCH? That is the conversation I’ve been trying to push. AI CAN BECOME SMARTER. AI CAN BECOME FASTER. AI CAN BECOME MORE AUTONOMOUS. BUT INTELLIGENCE MUST NEVER AUTOMATICALLY EQUAL AUTHORITY. 🚨 SOUTH KOREA’S FINANCIAL REGULATOR IS NOW TALKING ABOUT: AI ATTACKS DEFENDED BY AI. My question is: WHAT INFRASTRUCTURE WILL CONTROL BOTH? That’s where I believe the conversation around Internet Computer becomes MUCH bigger than cryptocurrency. ♾️ INTERNET COMPUTER | $ICP AI IS CHANGING THE ATTACK. THE INFRASTRUCTURE MUST CHANGE THE DEFENCE. @dfinity @dominic_w @PierreSamaties #ICP #InternetComputer #DFINITY #SouthKorea #AI #CyberSecurity #Banking #AIAgents #AgenticAI #AISecurity #Canisters #SovereignCloud #DigitalSovereignty 🏴 Welsh ICP Conviction @ICPLEGEND1966 ❤️ LIKE 🔁 REPOST & SHARE 💬 COMMENT ♾️ ICP Donation Address: 1e672d038cebc619d93186418fa98f6499dbdb9cfdfac54f366c61a4a4ee4362 https://the420.in/south-korea-bank-cyberattack-investigation/13h
