TLDR

Sam Altman posted that OpenAI will host a GPT-6 community night in San Francisco on September 16 to discuss the model and meet users. Several builders posted videos of their experiments. One created a sonar app that uses audio and the Doppler effect to scroll a Mac screen with hand gestures. Another fed nine photos of a studio into the model and received an interactive 3D version of the space. A third built an app that responds to knocks on a Mac trackpad. An independent benchmark site showed GPT-6 Astra leading its scientific discovery leaderboard.

@samaWe want to celebrate with people using GPT-6. We did this for GPT-5.5 and it was really fun. We’re getting together in SF on September 16 to talk about the model, what we should build next, and mostly just to hang out. Apply by Sep 10: https://gpt6-launch-event.openai.chatgpt.site/23d
@jaskiratmade a dumb little mac app called MacTap. you knock on the aluminum next to your trackpad and it does stuff.23d
@emanperez28Astra made me a sonar app that emits undetectable audio to scroll up/down on your computer. It uses the doppler effect to determine where your hand placement is. You can even double tap in the air to change scroll directions!23d
@Apodex_AIGPT-6 Astra @OpenAI is here. Everyone's asking how smart it is. We asked a different question: can it discover the unknown? We ran it through TRACES — our benchmark for scientific discovery capability. Six process dimensions, not one score. Result: it tops our leaderboard. Real generational jump — Evidence and Coherence both up ~20-25% over GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.5. Highest Coherence we've ever recorded. But the six dimensions don't move together, and that's exactly why one "how smart" number isn't enough. Some capabilities leap forward, others hold steady, in the same model. That unevenness is what a process score is built to catch. @rpnicksonI fed GPT-6 Astra 9 crappy photos of my studio and it was able to understand the spatial arrangement, stitch them together and create a fully interactive 3D model of the space. Absurd. I'll link it below so you can check it out for yourself:23d
@thsottiauxSee you at the Astra party. Excited to meet some of you23d
@eevblogOh gee, look, GPT-6 Astra can do what autorouters and autoplacers could do 30 years ago.23d
