Shreyas Garg (@shreyas_garg3) Partner at @IVP says too many investors are chasing yesterday's winners "A lot of investors missed out on the first wave of foundation models, namely OpenAI & Anthropic. VCs make a mistake where they miss a wave of companies, & they try to find corollaries to those.. backing a bunch more foundation models, a bunch more copycats of the same thing.. instead of thinking critically about what the next type of companies to back will be. A lot of people are spending time in the local maxima & not thinking bigger picture." Meanwhile: "Design is gonna become more & more important in the future. You're not gonna have some HTML design beautiful things." "It'll have to be the human, & humans need the granularity to be able to shape the small things that make a product beautiful and really fun to use." "I literally have engineers come to the board meeting to show us things on Figma." "You never see an engineer prompting or coding in a board meeting, but Figma's the thing that appears in the board meeting showing, 'This is what we're gonna come up with. This is what's gonna be the future.' So you really do see it as that creative element of how people want to show the future of their products. It's not really code. Code is kind of the functionality component of it, but Figma's the way you see the future—what the product feels like—and that's the more important point nowadays.
