Mistral unveils Large 4, a 1-trillion-parameter multimodal AI model

Mistral says Large 4, nicknamed Le Chonk, has 1 trillion parameters, with 49 billion active. The company claims it leads open-weight models from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks and beats closed frontier models on visual grounding. Mistral said API access began October 6; Axios reports it plans to release the weights October 27 after further testing.
