@8bit5_0 They have some talented folks for sure. They are a bit of a black box at the moment (a good thing, don't talk first, come out swinging and then talk) but my fingers are crossed here.

@Dan_Jeffries1 Open weights restore professional autonomy. A frontier lab silently rerouted research-adjacent requests to weaker models, then called it a wrong tradeoff. No appeal existed.

@aginaut Fully agree. I mean they have to be competitive as basic table stakes or it doesn't matter. Simple as that. But I take it as a given with my statement.

As I said yesterday we're about to see a surge of American open source. Thinking Machines is the first step. Nobody should sleep on Reflection. They're quiet, but that's because, they are heads down working. They will come out roaring too and just in time. Walk softly and carry a big stick energy. The regulatory capture people love to appeal to the egos of politicians with all their scary talk about dangers. Makes them feel like they're "doing something" and "getting ahead of it." So we're in a dangerous time because dangerous people are playing to people's egos. The only thing that changes this dynamic is not more talk and blathering by fools like me on X: It's market dynamics.
