The original iPod marks 25 years since its debut
Tom's Hardware recalls that the $399 player held 1,000 songs in 5GB of storage and used FireWire instead of USB.
TLDR
Tom's Hardware marked the original iPod's 25th anniversary on October 23, 2026. It describes a $399 player the size of a deck of cards, with 5GB of storage for 1,000 songs. Its 1.8-inch Toshiba hard drive connected through FireWire, which Tom's Hardware says Apple used because USB at the time was too slow and didn't offer charging.
