serious thought experiment for everyone: what if zuck released an open weights model as good as kimi k3? what would the reactions have been? i mean this was his original plan before he pivoted hardcore after seeing the profits from other ai labs.
if zuck had stuck to his original plan & managed to release an open weights model at the level of kimi k3, it would’ve cemented him his legendary status in history… from the guy who invented facebook that has had at least some negative societal implications to the guy who made intelligence too cheap to meter & too widely accessible to contain. he would’ve been instantly goated. instead, meta pivoted toward becoming an ai compute provider. remarkable how history can fork.
