Modulate raises $25 million to expand voice analysis tools for deepfake detection and AI agents

Modulate has raised $25 million in new funding as it expands software for companies that want to analyze voice conversations for fraud, compliance, and AI-agent performance. The round was led by Future Ventures, with participation from Hyperplane and Lakestar.

Founded in 2017 by MIT alumni Mike Pappas and Carter Huffman, the Boston company builds a platform that analyzes raw audio. TechCrunch reported that Modulate offers transcription, emotional analysis, deepfake detection, AI music detection, and policy enforcement for voice agents in regulated industries.

The company’s focus is on understanding signals in speech beyond a plain transcript. TechCrunch reported that Modulate specializes in deepfake detection and alerting organizations such as call centers to possible scams. The same report said it also monitors how AI agents respond to customers to assess call quality and help make sure those systems follow compliance rules.

SecurityWeek reported that Modulate’s Velma platform brings together more than 100 specialized models that detect signals including emotion, tone, intent, synthetic speech, and conversational behavior. SecurityWeek also said typical applications include protecting healthcare institutions from deepfake attackers, monitoring voice-agent performance, and detecting harmful behavior in voice conversations.

TechCrunch also reported that the company said its technology is being used to monitor cyberattacks through voice calls.

Modulate says it plans to use the new funding to expand its models, APIs, SDKs, integrations, and deployment options for developers and partners building voice applications.
