I was wrong. It shouldn’t be residents pushing these out.

The first big AI model that continuously posts on social media all the environmental data related to their Data-centers, and invites local utilities, community groups and consultants to review the data and publish their findings as often as they would like, is going to benefit significantly.

As will the residents who want to see their issues resolved

Trust = Transparency/ Self interest.

The more transparent about data centers the big models are, the better chance they have of regaining trust.

@mcuban All companies should publish what resources they extract, emissions they release, and hectares of Earth's surface they foreclose from supporting wildlife habitat, and they should compensate the people ~ impact, enough to keep overall impacts in line with what most people endorse.

What would be the cost to monitor air/water quality, photovoltaic sensor to measure light, and a decibel meter?

All would need to be industrial grade and be able to communicate in some fashion with a Siemens s7 1500s industrial PC (via ET 200 family of remote IO).

Also include cost of said PC, 1080p video streaming device, and a starlink plan to upload the video.

The visibility idea is good, but it points at the wrong meter. A data center's water use is real yet largely recirculated, and it ranks below cattle, power plants, even golf courses in total draw. The binding constraint is electricity: a single hyperscale campus now pulls 500 megawatts to a gigawatt, the load of a mid-size city, onto grids with multi-year interconnection queues. If you want the public to see the problem, stream the substation, not the cooling tower. The fight is over firm power.
