More companies are putting AI agents on org charts as digital coworkers spread

AI agents are increasingly being introduced inside companies not just as software tools but as named coworkers with roles on org charts, according to WIRED. In a January poll of 1,261 managers cited by Boston Consulting Group partner Julie Bedard, 22% said their organizations had already added AI agents to corporate org charts. WIRED points to newer products from Microsoft and startup Anything, whose agents are pitched as assistants or coworkers operating across workplace channels. The report also highlights risks: Bedard and colleagues found managers caught 18% fewer errors when they believed work came from an AI employee rather than an AI tool. Lattice CEO Sarah Franklin said her company’s use of digital employees is meant to create accountability, not blur the line between humans and software.
