acqui-hires/-sitions are great for propping up shareholder-value but actually quite terrible for internal morale when they end up providing no real technical substance afterwards and serve only as a reminder of the greener grasses of boomeranging to the lowly wagie plebs
acqui-hires/-sitions who then simply rest, vest, and smile/nod along to every organizational misstep afterwards are even more cancerous
and when marketing hype is peak, there is no time/energy to excise cancers, especially if the entire organ is not an existential risk for the entire corporate body
and sometimes the cancers will just relocate themselves, allowing natural order to eventually restore itself everywhere
