Planetary VC founder Ramez Naam says Western battery startups must target specialized high-performance chemistries to compete with China

Competing with the Chinese battery giants is hard. CATL and BYD own commodity batteries. But a few western companies are working on high energy density specifically. Take a look at my portco @Ourosenergy and li-sulfur company Lyten, among others. Batteries (unlike solar or wind) are a defense technology for drone warfare. High energy density matters incredibly to deliver longer range and larger payloads. So I do expect some western companies to thrive, as the west can't depend on Chinese companies in the case of future conflict.
