📈 @DavidSacks you can’t look at job openings anymore to understand the job market!

There is a worrying trend of companies posting fake job ads to calm their employees, collect user data and training data, and create an alibi for DEI reasons.

1) In Europe, there are requirements for companies to reach a specific female quota. If a company is unable to reach that, they often open a job ad so they can deflect in case of legal trouble: “We’re hiring already.”

2) I’ve seen companies collect user data for training AI models, like an HR hiring bot. People are even asked to go through an AI interview… but no one is hired.

3) Many companies put out job ads to calm their employees. Everyone is afraid of job cuts now, so HR posts job ads to signal “we’re hiring and expanding, nobody is being fired.”

4) Scams to get user data are also increasing.

5) I know IT guys who have been unable to find a job for over a year, and salaries have started to go down overall (at least here).

That’s just some examples I know of.

Unfortunately, a pure job opening count is not sufficient anymore. If you want to actually check what happens in regard to “job loss/win,” you need data on how many people were hired, not how many jobs are opened.

Congress and the WH must end OPT, H-1B, and a litany of other work visa programs and prioritize local citizens in the work force.

Job postings are not an indicator of the actual job market. Companies can post as many jobs as they want and then reject candidates. We already know there are enough 'Ghost Job Postings' on LinkedIn.

There is absolutely no cost that companies bear to post Jobs.
