Vertical AI Founders Discuss Neofirm Building, Defensibility, And Margins
Reactions from ranked influencers
2 postsHad an awesome time yesterday chatting w/ @ryanjdaniels from @crosbylegal & @jamiecuffe from @pacecom about building the neofirm. I thoroughly enjoyed getting their perspectives + thoughts on: - Why build the firm instead of selling software to incumbents (or rolling up existing firms), - What actually makes a neofirm defensible beyond being a wrapper on the models, and - Whether software margins are the end state for neofirms or just a local maximum from being early Was a great crowd of vertical AI founders + operators who earned my respect showing up despite the NYC tornado warning. Looking forward to doing more in vertical AI here in NYC. Thanks to @GallagherBilly and the @crosbylegal team for hosting us!
2 years almost to the day, @jamiecuffe and I started working out of the same office. We sat side-by-side for another 6 months. I watched him pull an all-nighter to launch @pacecom's first client, we competed for many early hires. Most important, we pushed each other to think bigger about our business models. How could we build agents you can actually hire instead of a service provider? We landed on something like a noefirm. It was so much fun to recount the some of our early stories last night with @jbahrdestefano
Great convo last night between @jbahrdestefano @ryanjdaniels & @jamiecuffe on building the Neofirm and why now is the right moment to fully own the outcome. Loved some of @jamiecuffe’s stories about sprinting to build V1 of @pacecom before hurricane season, and hearing about how winning the right lighthouse accounts was critical to both companies’ early days.
