OpenAI Disbands Preparedness Team
Financial Times reports duties shifted to other internal groups last month.
The Financial Times reported that OpenAI quietly disbanded its preparedness team at the end of last month. Responsibilities for areas such as bio and cyber risks moved to senior staff inside existing teams. Multiple posts quote the report and note the team had assessed catastrophic risks from frontier models. Miles Brundage and others called for more transparency on the change. Nathan Calvin and Gary Marcus highlighted prior concerns that the earlier structure was not working well. Rohan Paul added that the team once linked capability assessments to safety work. Public posts so far show reactions of concern without new details from OpenAI.
