Discovered Claude app strings show Anthropic plans to gate Fable 5 behind metered credits and identity verification

Every day, I think I could not appreciate open source any more than I already do.

And then something new happens, like ID verification, and I am simply glad that I can run increasingly better models locally as well.

@AndrewCurran_ bet it’s something Anthropic was asking for…or leading the administration to ask for by arranging circumstances and then accepting the govts proposal, pretending it was the govts idea.

New Claude app strings suggest Anthropic is preparing to put Fable 5 behind a separate usage-credit system billed outside existing plans, with credits added only after identity verification.

Anthropic previously said identity verification was unrelated to Fable and limited to flagged accounts, yet the new verification language appeared alongside Fable 5 credit changes.

That would change everything and tighten the regulations I've been talking about.

@kimmonismus Actually, this is even bad news: if gpt’s capabilities come close to fable’s, it will be easier for people to use gpt while bypassing all the rules and restrictions imposed by fable

@AndrewCurran_ No idea why so many people are upset with KYC for frontier access. This is a small and reasonable price to pay. We just have to make sure that models are internationally available.

@kimmonismus This could be for other plans, etc. But imagine it is in fact for max plans also. How stupid must they be? Codex will become the all-time favorite.

I have never cared about giving my ID, my concern is the requirement.

I think it should be like a gun. Pass a background check and you’re free.

I don’t think we will ever get the real Fable back. Empowers the small. Weakens ability to lie and manipulate.

Even with ID, I think find another excuse to lock things down.
