Global data center buildout forecast to add 50 GW in 2027

SemiAnalysis forecasts 50 GW of new global data center capacity in 2027, citing construction starts and leasing as leading indicators. It says more than 24 GW across 40 campuses is in advanced construction for delivery that year. The firm argues modular designs and on-site power generation can help builders work around labor and grid constraints, while memory and logic chips could become the next bottleneck in 2027–28.
