I love Packy's blog. The core statements of this piece when it comes to energy are just wrong, though. Which happens a lot these days.
The US creates more economic value per unit of energy than at any point in history. We use less energy per capita because we've become much more efficient, not because of any limit of supply.
The energy doomers complaining about US energy production in total or energy production per capita are looking at the wrong metric. Supply follows demand, not the other way around.
If you want to criticize US electricity production, there's one main case on which to do so, which is time to power. How *fast* can new demand be met is our failing. Not total energy supply or supply per capita. The former is vital. The latter two are just responses to demand.
