@deanwball @pmarca and if so, under what ECCN?
The exchange questioned VC Marc Andreessen's stance on the restrictions
Users criticize Marc Andreessen's stance on AI model export controls as hypocritical and unprincipled, accusing him of supporting positions based on popularity or bias rather than consistent beliefs.

@deanwball @pmarca and if so, under what ECCN?

@deanwball @pmarca He hasn’t self-reflected to know what he supports, he supports what’s popular

@pmarca btw marc if you wanted an easy out, you could have replied to this with “I’m genuinely uncertain” and while it would have been contentless, given your follower count alone it would have done the job simply by pointing to the referent

@deanwball i sure hope this is an issue that polarizes the industry unidirectionally, and no significant parties defect here just to spit in the face of anthropic

@deanwball @pmarca He's a fan. He doesn't have actual principles

@deanwball @pmarca Depends on whether the model weights are part of the portfolio or not

@deanwball @pmarca Did you just make those words up?

@deanwball @pmarca Seems unlikely it's a model weight issue, if they're addressing "foreign persons within the country"-- likely a deemed export issue related to the model outputs.

@deanwball @pmarca I mean tbh, I think America has the right to (and should) maintain the lead in AI, and restrict access outside the US, especially for high-disruption technology.
That being said, if this is simply in response to an unnamed individual being able to jailbreak Mythos, overreaction

@deanwball @pmarca I’m sure he will bow down to the administration, the same way David Sacks and his ilk will. In the name of freedom, of course.

@LabGrownNeet @deanwball @pmarca The portfolio is the principle

@deanwball @pmarca I’d assume the same as @pmarca felt about cryptography export controls

@deanwball @pmarca And bill gurley? Had a whole talk about deregulation and open sourcing. What about David sacks? A His bias is soo loud lately against anthropic. Anthropic is basically at war with the entire administration at this point.

@deanwball @pmarca Same question could be posed to you (and Anthropic) in the negative- is mythos a catastrophe inducing hacking machine or is it an empty marketing ploy built with immense public backing.

@deanwball @pmarca He is unfortunately just a meme purveyor at this point. And we wonder how we got here.
