Samsung fined 20.1 billion won over Galaxy gaming-performance ads
Android Authority reports Samsung’s software automatically throttled certain games, undercutting its promise of “ultimate” gaming performance.
TLDR
Android Authority reports that South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission fined Samsung 20.1 billion won (about $15.1 million) over its Galaxy gaming ads. The outlet says Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service ran automatically for certain popular games and could reduce performance to as low as 30% of what was possible. BGR says regulators faulted Samsung for failing to disclose what the software did with the advertised hardware. Android Authority, citing Seoul Economic Daily, says Samsung maintains that no court has found consumers were harmed by the advertising.
