it would be very funny if the american tech job market were saved by broad export controls on advanced models that forced companies to choose between (1) hiring only us citizens or (2) not using ai tools
Many users back export controls on AI models that would force US-only tech hiring, citing higher pay for American engineers and SpaceX precedents, while others call the idea awful for risking a two-tier system or worse.

PS3 dev hardware was was restricted for some time. It was only allowed in certain countries, and foreign nationals from other countries not allowed.
eg a Syrian national in US could not access

america's superpower is attracting the best talent in the world to its shores and building a nation unmatched by any other. the goal is to attract the .01%, not the uneducated refugee hordes. native born americans that typically oppose immigration do so because they are 1) low iq and 2) low agency. in other words, they're on the left tail of the distribution.
as for ai, i get that it feels threatening, especially to senior ppl who've spent a decade building a career, and view ai taking away what they've built. that is the wrong take and i have a pretty good view on what's on the other side.
