> coherent memory well… that's not exactly false, but… looks like a very good machine to run local DeepSeek-V4-Flash lol. In a few thousand years might pay back for itself. Definitely a joy to tinker on, though.
It supports local models up to one trillion parameters.

Negative users dismiss Nvidia's $85K DGX Station as wildly overpriced with poor bandwidth and value for local AI, mocking buyers as rich enthusiasts while one reply sees adoption as necessary to compete.
$85k for 250 Gigs of HBM3E Seeing stuff like this always makes me super bearish on edge AI/self-hosting

Alan Kay once argued that folks should have treated computers more like cars in terms of value. This used to sound crazy and un-democratic, but ultimately the 10-100x lower price might have hindered the development of much more powerful paradigms like deep learning

You are going to be surprised what happens next.
Statements like that have been said for decades - you can look up The Great Moore's Law Compensator and Wirth's Law.
In competitive markets you do not have the luxury of discriminating new technology by price. You must spend and adapt in order to survive.

@zephyr_z9 All the buy 3090s to run a quantised version of a smaller parameter version model make me lol

@zephyr_z9 85k just for the memory is wild. Local AI is fun until you see the actual bill

@zephyr_z9 My strategy plan.

@zephyr_z9 This is what edge enthusiasts always sound like

@teortaxesTex I will never understand why they built it with Crap bandwidth

@Rafa_Schwinger @teortaxesTex They wanna save the HBM for the big enterprises.

@teortaxesTex But will it run Crysis.

@zephyr_z9 Need those "brilliant chinese" to make one for $8,500, still too expensive. Make it $850 ok.
If Deepseek can undercut frontier models by 90% then why not local LLM rigs 🤭

@teortaxesTex Finally a computer that can run Crysis

@teortaxesTex r/LocalLLM is inevitably going to have a few rich morons buy these and then come post asking if it can run an “AI” more powerful than ChatGPT

@zephyr_z9 Pewdiepie will bid this

@teortaxesTex Is this the thing worth 100k? lol There is no way is so low vram

@zephyr_z9 85k for storage that would probably still buffer loading a pdf is wild

@zephyr_z9 It costs 85K now, it won’t in 2 years.

@zephyr_z9 The trick of edge AI is that you’re not JUST buying it to run AI on so you’re not doing a pure amortization of cost of device vs tokens but like yeah the market for edge AI is really more high end laptops and hyper small models on phones than this

@zephyr_z9 Every supply shortage end in a glut?
