@MikeIsaac @maureenmfarrell This is good news, right! Eg, I wish everyone included TSLA when it IPO'ed, since it went 300x since then. S&P500 was also quite late to include it in 2020, at the detriment of everyone's 401k!

yesterday brought a huge exception: the S&P 500 decided *not* to change its rules. it is enormously influential to a great many index funds
it was a surprise to most (including me) who expected the index to fall in line with peers
the S&P statement is telling:
the greater point to me:
indices like the NASDAQ 100 and FTSE Russell decided in the weeks before the SpaceX IPO, it was important enough to change the rules for megacap companies, which will include the expected major listings of OpenAI and Anthropic

We get to it in the peace but the thinking around mega cap companies being included earlier is a discussion very relevant for the times, as companies have stayed private longer and grown enormous

The massive scale of SpaceX means it is bound to become an absolute staple in major index funds and target date retirement portfolios. Even if you aren't trying to invest in aerospace or satellite internet directly, market cap weighting will likely do the work for you. It is going to be fascinating to see how its valuation shifts institutional portfolios.
