June 2022! YaLM-100B was straight up the biggest open weights GPT replication! GLM-130B was 4 months later! BLOOM-176B from Europeans, November! LLaMA-65B, Feb 2023! We were actually #1… for a short moment in time. I had already left by then, of course. Others did too.

@teortaxesTex but now "european company", obviously I'm saying MistralAI and maybe Blackforest Lab is commiting suicide by strict censorship, yet bad performance. I won't expect russia will surpass China or US, since AI is still compute-hungry and power-hungry, but at least nobody will ignore.
