Nabeel S. Qureshi@nabeelquIt's an old observation, but it is still funny how the most accelerationist faction has consistently been the AI safety people, seemingly against their explicitly held wishes. The logic is "someone will grab these levers, we've identified them first, it may as well be us".

NS Nabeel S. Qureshi@nabeelquIt's not that the logic is necessarily wrong: for example, you can invest in cyber-hardening the world well before automated cyber-attacks at scale become a thing. Same with bio. And so on. But it does risk becoming a passive Instrument of History in ways you may not want.
