OpenAI Cuts GPT-5.6 Sol API Prices by 20 Percent
The cut applies for three months to API and credit usage for the model.
OpenAI posted a temporary reduction in GPT-5.6 Sol API and Work/Codex credit pricing by more than 20 percent for three months. The new rates are listed as $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Pro, Plus, and Business subscription usage stays at prior levels. OpenAI president Greg Brockman stated the goal is the lowest market price combined with highest capability ceiling. Engineer Sherwin Wu noted the resulting price makes the model the cheapest frontier offering and contrasted it with GPT-4's 2023 rates of $30/$60 per million tokens for 8k context.
As we continue to push the frontier of capabilities while improving efficiency, we're dropping API and credit pricing of GPT-5.6 Sol by over 20% for the next 3 months.
