Tucker served as Meta’s deputy general counsel and litigation chief after previously holding a senior legal position at Morgan Stanley. The move reunites him with Apple general counsel Jennifer Newstead, who spent six years as Meta’s top lawyer before joining Apple. Spokespeople for Apple and Meta declined to comment on the reported hire.
The appointment also changes the reporting line for Heather Grenier, Apple’s vice president of commercial and competition litigation. Bloomberg says Grenier will report to Tucker rather than directly to Newstead, while keeping her place on Newstead’s legal leadership team. A 9to5Mac summary also notes that longtime Apple legal executive Kyle Andeer is taking on international legal matters plus work involving child safety, cybersecurity and law enforcement.
Apple is reorganizing amid major legal fights
The reported changes are part of a broader reorganization under Newstead, who now oversees Apple’s legal and government-affairs groups. Apple has also hired former American Airlines executive Nate Gatten to lead government affairs and appointed new regional government-affairs leaders.
The legal team is handling a wide range of cases, including a U.S. antitrust lawsuit, Apple’s continuing dispute with Epic Games over App Store restrictions, privacy litigation and suits connected to delayed Siri features. Bloomberg reports that some Apple executives believe the company has not performed as well in court as it should have, particularly in App Store cases.
Apple’s management structure has also been changing under CEO John Ternus, with new leaders installed across the App Store, information security, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and hardware engineering. Tucker’s reported arrival adds another senior hire to that wider reshuffling, but Apple had not publicly announced the move at the time of Bloomberg’s report.
