One in five U.S. adults say they regularly get news on TikTok, Pew Research Center found in an August 2026 survey. That share is unchanged from 2025 but up from 3% in 2020.

The responses vary by age. In Pew's breakdown, 39% of adults ages 18 to 29 say they regularly get news on TikTok. The shares are 25% among adults ages 30 to 49, 11% among those ages 50 to 64 and 4% among those 65 and older.

The number is higher when the question is limited to people who use the app: 53% of U.S. adult TikTok users say they regularly get news there. That is about the same as 55% in 2025 and above 22% in 2020. The 53% figure describes TikTok users, not all U.S. adults.

Pew surveyed 5,166 U.S. adults from Aug. 24 to 30, 2026. All were members of its American Trends Panel, and Pew says the survey was designed to represent U.S. adults. The findings reflect what respondents said about their news habits.
