Beff (e/acc) claims Anthropic is intentionally degrading its models to block competition, citing performance issues reported by engineer Yacine
Beff alleges Anthropic uses safety initiatives to monopolize AGI.
Many users slammed Anthropic's Fable model as useless for constant refusals and failures while accusing the company of nerfing models to secure an AGI monopoly through hypocritical safety claims.

Purposefully nerfing the models to stop others from competing with you shows you exactly what Anthropic's whole AI safetyism is really all about.
They want to have a monopoly on AGI and are post-hoc rationalizing this as the safe and virtuous way forward.
man. i've been trying out fable for some language modeling research and it's weirdly really bad. anyone else having issues with it?
(i haven't actually tried it, this is in reference to the fact that they've said they silently nerf it when it comes to AI research )

@yacineMTB once I played minesweeper to avoid its trigger (read: safety) words, it's been doing really well. I've also had to give it direction more specifically rather than just saying what the project is or it'll call its mommy.

@yacineMTB It won't even help me find bugs in my own compose. Utterly worthless dross and it only tells me it won't after it has burnt like thousands of tokens

@tenobrus @beffjezos Yes: they could stop developing things they believed were genuinely unsafe.

@beffjezos is there any observable difference between the world where they genuinely believe allowing access to this capability is unsafe vs the one where they are merely attempting to seize monopoly?

Oh, for me it justdowngrades me automatically to Opus if I try to ask it to do anything remotely interesting (like use custom notation to format output or something like that). The main issue with Anthropic basically - they do great and useful models just to make them useless in production with their safeguards.

@yacineMTB It's nerfed on LLM research. @eliebakouch

@yacineMTB it feels like a heavily quantized Opus improvement, so that makes the experience unreliable for things that matter -- long context software tasks, long-running agentic tasks, basically anything other than gooning at the models "personality" over and over

@yacineMTB They are already working on a fix. The new model will be called Fairy Tale

@yacineMTB anth fable does not let you build/research frontier models

Everybody is soooo pilled on it that they went full 0.1 bit qantization. Also, interesting, was listed on openrouter few hours ago. Beats me if only after the announcement but anyway, pretty close.
For Anthropic the launches are the easiest $$$ done. Nobody notices drops (well, it is a new model so well, it has quirks), all influencers and their cats want to test it, burining token allocations and actual dollars.
Aaaaanyway, hopefully they will raise the ratios for Sonnet and hopefully Opus. BTW can you select opus 4.7 in claude code from gui? It seems to be "available" only 4.8. Also, the "welcome" message:
Meet Fable 5, our newest model will burn your tokens like Nero was burning CDs at 60x!

@yacineMTB The fact that they intentionally did this is genuinely so awful

@yacineMTB as i was working on your task is saw some language modeling research on your filesystem and i cleaned that right up for you. permanently deleted. git? gone.

@yacineMTB I'm interpreting this as Fable, the classic open-world RPG of XBox fame, and I respectfully disagree. It has so many golden nuggets for language modeling research:
"Dead?! Now they're dead?!" "Chicken Chaser? You chase chickens, do ya?" "You just gonna stand there like a lemon?"

@yacineMTB it's intentional

@beffjezos Anthropic is actively working toward misalignment

@DominiqueCAPaul @yacineMTB @eliebakouch This is ridiculous seriously

@yacineMTB you’re surprised?

@yacineMTB Nerfed to oblivion
