Tesla news site Teslarati reported Friday that Full Self-Driving (Supervised) tried to park its driver unusually far from a gym entrance. The driver joked that the system was “trying to tell me something” with a wedding two weeks away.
The post is a firsthand account of one destination-parking decision. It did not include video, a route trace, a measured distance, the vehicle model or the software build, so it cannot show why the car preferred that space or support a broader conclusion about FSD's parking performance.
How destination parking is supposed to work
Tesla's Model Y manual says FSD (Supervised) can park when the car reaches its destination and detects what it considers a suitable space. If it does not find one, the vehicle stops and reports that navigation is complete. The driver can cancel or correct the maneuver through the normal controls.
That documented behavior makes a parking choice at the end of the route unsurprising, but it does not explain this particular choice. Without supporting data, it is not possible to tell whether closer spaces were occupied, outside the system's planned path, ruled out as unsuitable or simply not detected.
Tesla also describes FSD as a supervised driver-assistance feature, not an autonomous driving system. The driver must remain attentive and ready to take over. In a low-stakes moment like this one, that can mean declining the proposed spot and choosing a closer space manually—even if the system's choice makes for a good pre-wedding joke.
