This work was led by @Milotrince, along with an amazing team of collaborators at @SCSatCMU and @gs_ai_. Trinity is also the first graduate of the NeuroAgents lab—be sure to check out her MS thesis talk about this work and how we were inspired by biology! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP7WUNRml04
Beyond scaling to 16k+ parallel envs & 1k+ taxels on one GPU, we find: whole-hand sensing beats fingertip-only; high-res, high-fidelity force/torque sensing matters more than placement or type; & we're the first tactile simulation platform to implement temperature + audio sensing—and show their benefits.
It's clear that to unlock the next big advances in robotics, we need at-scale tactile sensing. For the past year, in collab w/ @gs_ai_, we've been working on perhaps the most wide-ranging, realistic tactile simulator to ask: *What should the future of robot hands look like?*
