Apple has decided not to bring its new Siri AI to iPhones and iPads in the EU, blaming the Digital Markets Act. The Commission’s reply was blunt: this is Apple’s choice, not Europe’s fault. No American multinational can blackmail 450 million consumers by saying: change your rules, or we keep innovation away. A carmaker would not refuse to export cars because Europe requires a speedometer. The same principle applies here. The DMA defends fair competition, consumer choice and digital sovereignty. In Europe, Big Tech does not write the law.
Positive users support EU regulations reining in Apple, while negative users blame the DMA for blocking new Siri AI on EU iPhones and insult the regulators.

@pureskreatin @appleinsider Apple would also never open up their iOS to allow such a deep integration - like a Chrome on iOS using Apple's WebKit.
But Apple replaced their Siri with Gemini. https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/technology/developers-tools/bringing-gemini-models-to-apple-developers/
@democrats_eu The EU rules on AI make it clear that rollback is sometimes necessary when problems arise
The EU DMA itself should be subject to rollback, as the current rules are patently not fit for purpose

@democrats_eu Dis que tu ne comprends rien à la sécurité et à la confidentialité sans dire que tu ne comprends rien à la sécurité et à la confidentialité. Crétin.

@appleinsider Siri AI has become the Apple Maps - a function replaced by Google.
Apple dedicated too much time on selling monthly subscriptions and increase shareholder value and preventing taxes - no longer the fabulous underdog, Apple became a "Trump gold gifting" Microsoft.

@democrats_eu Can you describe the safety issue here? Because a speedometer is a measure for safety. Did the EU stop Siri AI because it's not safe? No it didn't :) so let's stop the gaslighting maybe.

@democrats_eu This is EU fault, not Apple’s choice and certainly not the consumers’ choice

@democrats_eu If you use the car analogy: why can’t I get my BMW with a Mercedes motor?

@democrats_eu @TimSweeneyEpic Arrant nonsense. Anyone who has built security software knows that this will open lay bare security holes for European consumers.

@xenon8000 @appleinsider Nope. The models have been built by Apple and there is no Gemini model used 1:1 apparently.

Shut the fuck up. The end of the EU is at the horizon. It’s only a matter of time, and I hope that the president of the United States starts tariffs from 200% and stops all deliveries of LNG. The EU commission must change its rules, or it must be punished, and hopefully the president withdraws from NATO to hurt Europe as it deserves. I will no longer vote in elections about the EU until stop the war on American companies and on technical innovations. I hate right-win extremism, but when they get elected, because I did not cast my ballot then I don’t care when right-wing extremist take control over the EU. Give a shit about it.

@democrats_eu So tell me, DMA makes it that Apple needs to open personal data to 3rd parties, and GDPR forbids it

@democrats_eu You people really have no idea what you are talking about

@democrats_eu Update the EU flag, this is getting ridiculous. I hope more EU exit movements start getting traction. YOU’RE NOT EUROPE BTW. You are EU. And EU only. Siri AI will release in non-commie european countries. You’ll get your comeuppance for all the hubris.

@democrats_eu Let’s hope that people will vote better next time and you won’t be able to destroy our prospects anymore

If the message is to give every European engineer one more reason to emigrate asap out of the eu, this is a success. It shows how out of touch the eu and its affiliates are. The DMA and GDPR are contradictory and Apple can't be blamed for being in an impossible position facing overreaching demands. In the end, users trust Apple for privacy, not the bureaucracy.

@democrats_eu So i can buy an Xbox and play Playstation games on it?

@xenon8000 @appleinsider Have you read the article? That is one of the features coming to iOS 27 where developers can call other models via the Apple foundation models.
See here for Claude: https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/cli-sdks-libraries/libraries/apple-foundation-models

@democrats_eu Bullshit - EU sucks - you bureaucrats suck

@democrats_eu Bullshit. The DMA is a retarded piece of legislation that handicaps the EU consumer. Eurocrats failed once again.

@democrats_eu Also dann kann ich auch verlangen einen Merzedes Tachometer im Volkswagen zu kriegen?
