I am going onto an aircraft carrier tonight to party with a bunch of computer linguists. For some reason my brain pulled out of memory a party I was at where Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, was leading a game of Warewolf. Everyone gets a card. And finds out who they are. Then has to figure out how to find the Warewolves. It is a game of getting to know other people quickly. If you were dumped into an aircraft carrier with 3,000 people smarter than you? What would you ask? The correct answer is ask where people are from. So many are from China. So I am asking for advice on where the smart people hang out in China. Planning a trip probably in October. The smart ones always know where the good stuff is. Do you go to a stupid person for information on a museum, or a smart person? Smart people, all the time. What I'm learning today is that I have no idea how language works, even though I've been a professional communicator all my life. It's actually flipping my mind out because I've been watching people talk about how they are changing AI to work with language and doing the research to figure out the right thing to do. The future's in good hands.
